Hi,
I was wondering if anyone recommends insurance for Laptops whilst abroad.
Myself and partner are both mac laptop owners and we are going to be living in Canada for a year. Would anyone (maybe someone in Canada) can recommend a company that provides insurance just for laptops or electrical stuff?
Our travel insurance dosnt sufficiently cover the cost of both our laptops should anything happen to them both so i feel individual insurance would be better suited.

TIA
Scott

If you are living in Canada for a year - are you renting a property or investing in one?

Household insurance might be something to look into and see if it would cover both Mac's.

only renting
ive had a quote through a UK company insure&go and it works out to about £70 including worldwide cover. ill look into canadian home insurance seperately

why pay for home insurance just to get your laptop covered when you probably already pay car insurance?

Just store your computer in your car at all times, if something happens to the car or if it gets stolen from the car, its covered!... probably... :D

But I have no idea for home insurance :(...

mm good idea. doubt the underwriter would agree with that.

i wont have a car anyway, im going to live in a ski resort

I am not an expert on canadian insurance, but in the states you have two options to privately insure electronics:

you can buy a specific policy (mine is through collegestudentinsurance.com) to cover all your personal property, for about $100/yr for $8000 of coverage.

or, if you have renters/homeowners/personal property insurance, you can add a rider specifically insuring a specific item (common items are engagement rings, heirloom items, or computer equipment) and adding a very low cost to that policy. However, it is taking a chance if you do this, because making a claim against it can up your premiums or cause another claim to be denied. Worth it for a $15,000 engagement ring, not so worth it for a $2500 computer.

Try looking for personal property insurance and canada on google. Mine does cover me internationally, and it's affordable. Mine covers theft, accidental damage, loss if someone borrows it, and hardware failure.
