I noticed many discussions online whether tje iPad Pro can be a real laptop replacement. Obviously the iPad won't replace a laptop for everyone but I think one of the challenges for adopting the iPad as a genuine laptop replacement is that we still want to do things the same way we're used to doing them on a laptop.

So with that in mind, for those of you who have made a partial or full transition to iPad as your main workhorse, what does your workflow look like? What apps do you use? How do you use them together?

For me, I mainly do office work (research, reports, presentations, etc.) and here are the apps I use most on iOS:
  • Microsoft Office (Word and PowerPoint mainly)
  • PDF Expert for reviewing and annotating PDFs
  • DropBox as my current file system, but hoping to move to iCloud with iOS 11 (especially since I'm already signed up for a higher storage package)
  • MS Outlook for email (we use an Exchange server at work, but it's a brilliant piece of software nonetheless)
  • Evernote (I'm not thrilled with this TBH)

As you can see, nothing too fancy. I'm curious to hear how the rest of you are making the most of the uniqueness of iOS and iPad Pro.

I'm still new to using an iPP but I've been 90% iPad only for the last year and a half or so. I use:

- Safari and Numbers for simple inventory management
- Ditto EBay
- Photos app and airdrop for image management/upload to inventories
- Facebook/Facebook Messenger, Mail and Alto for communicating with customers and clients
- DEVONthink to Go for collecting and organising research materials
- Ulysses and Pages for writing everything from museum scripts, short stories, reports etc (and yes, this is all pro in the sense that pro=paid work).
- Printer Pro to enable non-AirPrint printing
- Pixelmator, Affinity Photo and Pencil for creating banners, ads etc.

Basically the only 'pro' thing I can't do on my iPad is create rich widget-laden iBooks for heritage/educational use and I continue to live in hope that iBooks Author (or similar, Book Creator pales next to iBA) will be ported to iPad. The combination of the new iPPs and iOS 11 would be fantastic for that.

I use a 2016 MacBook that I really like but I am wanting to try the iPad Pro 10.5" to see if I can go super lightweight.

For work my list so far includes
  • VyprVPN
  • 1Password
  • Reflections for UNIX
  • MS Word & Excel
  • TextExpander
  • Textastic
  • Evernote
  • PDFPen
The requirements are quite basic and straightforward since a lot of the work is done on servers with the iPad as a client. I will be leaving my MacBook at home all this week. For me it's not just software though. I bought the keyboard case and without it I don't think I could entertain the idea. I don't particularly like the keyboard but I do like its convenience and the size is OK. It is also far superior to the hateful MacBook keyboard!

In addition to work I am studying so for that I am also using
  • Mendeley

Almost exactly the apps I use. Would loooove to go iPad only.

I'm trying this today. First thing, I've never used a keyboard with an iPad before. I did pick up the expensive Apple Smart Keyboard, and I'm trying it out for the first time today. So far, I'm actually quite surprised at how the keyboard changes the iPad into a "work" device.

I'm very pleasantly surprised.
