Laptop won't print to network printer

Since upgrading to El Cap, I can’t get my Air laptop to print to my Canon MG5350 printer. The Canon is connected to my desktop Mini with USB, and the Air has always connected to it on the wireless network.

The Mini connects to the Canon perfectly and prints.

I’ve tried most things I can think of, including re-adding the printer to the Printers & Scanners sheet on the Air. The Sharing prefs on the Mini all seem OK.

It seems to get part of the way there: the Printer Proxy sheet on the Air shows it ‘Looking for printer’, then ‘Connecting to printer’, and then ... nothing happens.

Any ideas?

I am having this problem as well with my Canon MX452 printer. Before upgrading to El Capitan it could print and scan wirelessly without any problems. Neither Apple nor Canon support have been able to help me fix this issue. Tried both using software update from the MAS and downloading manually the corresponding driver for El Cap support from Canon's website and still nothing.

It's very frustrating, Comics, isn't it?

I've checked updates for both drivers, checked the sharing prefs, and re-added the printer. I tried resetting the printing system, and renaming the Printers folder following advice on the Apple forum.

No change.

Anyone have any ideas?

I manage to get it working after going into System Preferences>Printers & Scanners>(right-click on the left pane where the printer should be) and click reset printer system. After doing so do a reboot and again try to add the printer on again. It worked for me.

Comics, I'm interested to know if this was the exact same problem as mine: was your printer connected to a desktop machine and you could print from that desktop machine but not from a laptop trying to print from the network? If yes, which did you do the reset and reboot to, the desktop or the laptop?

No I only have a laptop. And it's connected wirelessly. I could print from my iphone running iOS 9 just fine but couldn't from my Mac running El Capitan. In your case I would try what I recommended on the machine that gives you the problem.

Ok, Comics, thanks for the clarification. I've already done that on the laptop, in other words the machine that "appears" to be making the problem, but I suppose it could in fact be the desktop machine that's gumming up the works. I'll give it a go.
