Source.

I wonder what's going on. The difference seems to large to be caused by Samsung vs. Toshiba like in the 2010 MBA.

Toshiba vs Samsung in 2010 wasn't nearly that big of a difference. I would almost bet that new faster 400 GBs SSD we heard rumors about is ONLY in the 13 inch model.

That's what I'm thinking too.

The Samsung in the chart uses a Samsung 470 SSD that can max out SATA II speeds. Even the Sony Z with dual SSD can't reach the speeds of the 13" MBA.

Perhaps that's true. We'll see once iFixit has a chance to tear down the 11" and 13" models. Perhaps the controller needs more room, or perhaps that's just Apple giving people a reason to opt for the 13" model. Now that both include the 1.8GHz Core i7 and 256GB storage options, on paper the main difference is size.

If we look at the File Transfer test, the 2011 11" model performs identically to the 2010 model, while the 13" model is significantly faster.

Maybe they are now soldered to the logic board?

That would be a space saving feature so why would they not do that on the 11?

Curious that under the performance section of the MBA page it has a "Up to 2x" sticker but the text doesn't really explain it.

Check out anandtech and see the SSD reviews. You'll find that the 256 GB versions are always much faster when compared to the same drive in a 128 GB capacity. That may be an explanation, but may not be.

I think it says TS128C. If so, that would be a Toshiba flash drive.

I thought they had changed to Samsung since they were slightly faster...are these ones faster than the samsung ones in the 2010 models?

Yes much faster. The Samsung in the chart uses the Samsung SSD.

It looks like the 128GB in 13" 2011 MBA is still the normal "slow" one.

Only the 256GB in the chart is something else.

This test is a sequential write, is it not? Meaning it will likely have little bearing on how fast the SSD feels in general use?

Correct.
does this mean the 13" 256 SSD ist faster than the 13" 128 SSD?

That's what the chart implies yes.

i'm a little confused. is this implying that the 256ssd in the 11 inch is a slower make than the 256ssd in the 13 inch?
