Large iTunes Match libraries slowing down the Music app on iPhone 4?

I recently signed up for iTunes Match, and over the past week I've been in the process of uploading the majority of my library (~120GB). I turned iTunes Match on on my iPhone 4, and so far the only thing it seems to have done is slow down the responsiveness of my Music app enormously! Backing out of an album into all-album view takes a VERY long time, to the point where I'm occasionally convinced my phone is frozen. Scrolling is occasionally very laggy as well, nothing that I've come to associate with my iPhone.

Will this lag time get better once my iTunes Match upload job finishes, or my phone finishes caching the Match results, or something? Or am I cursed with this very unresponsive iTunes Match library forever? Turning on "only show cached artists and albums" doesn't seem to really change anything. If this persists, I don't see myself using iTunes Match very long on my phone. Say it ain't so!

I have around 8000 songs in my library total, but initially when I first turned it on on my various iOS devices I found it slow. However, I also realized it was downloading some artwork. Once I let it do its thing for probably 30 minutes or so, my app seem to get back to normal. My library isn't nearly as big as yours, but that is my experience with it.

No, it won't last. It's probably still working in the background. Just give it time.

I'm also experiencing a ridiculous speed decrease. I have about 19k songs which is close to your library in size (slightly bigger)

I'm going to try leaving my iPod app open for an hour and see if it picks up speed

I had the same issue with a collection of over 20,000 songs. I connected my device to a power source, opened Music with iTunes Match enabled then let it download the metadata and artwork while I did something else.

It's a fairly slow process with a large collection, especially when you have more matched and uploaded content than iTunes Store-bought items.

So the phone will download ALL the artwork from your library, even if you haven't downloaded any of the songs? That seems like a waste of storage. That could easily hit the hundreds of MBs being used on the phone.

I've been in the process of re-downloading my library (made the mistake of syncing to Match before all my music had been matched) and it's taken several days so far. It's brutally slow.

This is not the polished product I've come to expect.

13,000 tracks, it was slow on first load.

But after caching, and even updating it's index, it's fast and snappy. Yea album art is slow, but the rest of the UI is fast.

Yes. I’ve allowed everything to upload, which took about 8 hours total. And it’s still extremely slow. It will take almost 30 seconds to become responsive after opening the app.

Also, all of my album covers are not there, even though it’s told it was complete and has synced a couple times since it finished the first time.

Also, strangely, The Zombies is showing up under 123 in artists rather than Z. I checked the usual suspects. Album artist is blank and Sort Artist is set to Zombies. (Oh my gosh. I’ve determined the problem. A weird glitch. Every last artist of each letter is under the the next letter. Weird glitch.)

Oh boy! I let my iTunes Match upload finish today. Let my phone sync as much as it needed plugged into power. The Music app is UNBEARABLY slow, to the point where I'm convinced it's frozen for a period of time. Additionally, after it finally finds the artist I'm searching for, tapping the artist name will result in a sporadic handful of albums, possibly even no albums, even though the search shows all the proper albums under the "albums" category in the search. Furthermore, tapping those albums will result in an error to the tune of "no music, but you can buy some from iTunes!" I love Apple, but this seems horribly half-baked. Unless this gets better overnight or someone offers a magic fix it looks like I'll be turning this feature off on my phone. $25 wasted

Battery life??

No one has mentioned how much of a battery drain it has been....
I monitored my usage, and when I first turn on my iPhone, it usually has 270-284 mb of RAM free....However, when listening to the Music app with NO other apps open or running in the background, its RAM usage is way too high....generally anywhere from 4-40mb free. This in turn has cause the battery to die super fast.
Let me know if I'm the only one with this problem....

For what it's worth, Match suddenly started working properly for me yesterday. All my albums were there, most of them had the correct album art, and the downloads ceased to bring my phone to a chugging crawl. I'm still a little annoyed the process was so painful, but things are looking brighter.

No....I got mine in June on VZW
