Larger file downloading problems

I'm using a Yahoo business e-mail service and have been trying to download attached Word and Excel documents on my imac 24. Smaller files that are less than about 75 kb download no problem. However, when I try to download files that are larger than that, the download window will open up and say "Starting" or will act as though downloading is happening, but the file never downloads. Come back an hour later, the download window still shows the file downloading. I'm using a Linksys wireless router with cable modem internet service. When I download the same files using my old Dell laptop with Windows XP, the files download in a matter of seconds. I have also found that zip files will act as though they have opened using Stuffit but no file appears on the desktop. Any ideas on what is causing these large file download problems? Thanks!

You could always try a different browser, say firefox, camino, safari, whatever you're not using. i've had need to switch browsers a few times, it's worth a shot. if that doesn't work you might have to set firefox etc to emulate internet explorer (that seems very unlikely, yahoo should work fine with firefox and other non-microsoft browsers), or you can troubleshoot by trying it on another mac or a peecee at work or wherever.

With the stuffit thing, you might want to check prefs and see if it is set to send opened files to your desktop, or somewhere else.

Are you using your Airport wireless connection? If so, try connecting your iMac up with a cat5 cable to your router and see if that helps as the Airport cards in the iMacs are notoriously flaky.
