Do you think thatg if you order your iPhone online you'll be able to get it laser engraved?

I don't think the rear casing is made out of metal (or whatever the back of the iPod is made out of) thus making it impossible to get it laser engraved...

Anyone can feel free to correct me

that'd be nice. Maybe I'd ask if they can just laser engrave random scratched on it, that way I won't be dissapointed when I find that first scratch

or I'd have it say "My first iPhone"

or "if found, please return to ______"

I'm sure the metal part is metal, just like the iPod.

It's just the black part across the bottom section that's plastic/composite.

actually... isn't the rear made of brushed aluminium like the macbook pros, not shiny like the ipods?

Plastic is not at all impossible to laser-engrave. The results vary depending on the plastic. There are many plastics that don't get commonly engraved because they don't handle it well or because they emit dangerous fumes when burned, but there are many plastics that engrave just fine. As soon as we see what specific plastic iPhones are made with, we'll know.

That's been a question of mine. I for one have always hated the shiny iPod backings. It looks great day 1, but after scratches build up it just looks terrible. Here's to hoping it's of the brushed aluminum styling.
