Laser printer connected to mobile hotspot

I am in the market for a monochrome laser printer. I recently purchased a Dell for a great price and found out it would not connect to my mobile hotspot. So it was returned.

I never have had issues connecting ink jets to my hotspot via wifi connection, but after contacting Dell and Samsung, I found out their lasers don't recognize the mobile hotspot.

How do I Figure out which laser printers will recognize my hotspot? I am looking for a very simple laser. Only need black and white print, and print only. No scan or copying required.

For curiosity, what network protocol, does the iPhone hotspot use?

Not sure there is a way to figure it out except by contacting the manufacturer and asking. Suggest trying Brother and HP, both of which make good quality wireless laser printers.

Most wireless printers that support AirPrint should have no problem connecting to your network.

As suggested there's a lot of printers by HP, Brother, Samsung, Canon and so on that have wireless and AirPrint capabilities. But it would be handy to know what wireless (or indeed wired) network you're trying to connect to, what model is your router and so on.

I don't have a router, I just turn my personal hotspot in, and my laptop and printer recognizes it as wifi. The Dell printer said it was wifi and could be used with my iPad, but it didn't support connecting to a mobile hotspot. I contacted Samsung and they said the same thing.

I was like you, if it could print over the air with iPhone or iPad, then it should connect to my wifi.

Ah, sorry I didn't think of using the iPhones hotspot, I'm daft that way at times

There's a chance then that the printer you were trying to use may have only supported the WEP security protocol, the iPhone hotspot only supports WPA2 Personal, so when looking for a printer that will work make sure that it states it can connect with WPA2 Personal and you shouldn't have any problems.
