I really wouldn't mind if it couldn't scrobble tracks as I played them, but if it could at least upload any tracks I have played since I last ran the app, I would be happy.

Unfortunately, Mobile Scrobbler ran as a background process, which is something 2.0 apps cannot do. So as of now you can't have instant scrobbles, but it will update the scrobbles when you sync with iTunes.

Yeah, I'm bummed to.

If it's scrobbling you're after, don't get your hopes up just yet - that Last.fm app doesn't scrobble. It's just the player. :(

That's better than no scrobbling at all. I wish it would scrobble instantly, but I would settle for this. That was similar to the way it used to work with my iPod anyway.

Unfortunately, the developer has indicated that it will NOT scrobble music played on the iPhone/iPod. It will only scrobble music played by the app itself (according to pooryou, above) - NOT your iTunes library.

The app is live now. Seems awesome so far!

At least you can still scrobble the songs you play in iPod app when you sync. Hopefully Apple will offer more features soon to enable things like real time scrobbling or background radio etc.

When you say you can still scrobble songs from the iPod, do you mean by using one of the various for-your-PC scrobbling clients? For some reason, those don't work for me -- or they mess up my Mac/iTunes in other ways, so I've been forced to remove them. That's why I was hoping for some sort of "instant" scrobbling app for the iPhone -- or at least an app that scrobbles when you sync, without the use of any other type of scobbling client.

You guys are good!

Great reply! Thanks everyone. Seems like the day after I posted this, the app was released...without scrobbling.

Couldn't Apple have some sort of license agreement prompt for users that want apps that run in the background, so that we agree that the battery life will suck. I dock mine everytime I come home so battery is never an issue for me.

What do you think?
