You do not need 12GB of memory for Minecraft or Starcraft II. The performance benefit over having 8GB will be 0.

The highest memory footprint I've seen a single game use are the current Alpha builds of Star Wars: The Old Republic (yes, I'm an Alpha tester, have been for 6 weeks and will be testing until released). Its commit charge for the game's process is ~3.5GB.

8GB is plenty for games. Period. If you need more, it'll be cheaper to add it in the future, since memory prices go down, not up.

don't waste the $$ on the extra RAM you wont use .. but the better model imac with the 6970 card .. it will last longer for games

i am buying it from OWC and im getting 12 gb total that wont help at all in performance
It'll help in the sense you won't be bottlenecked by 4GB of RAM, which can happen I think. As others have said, the GPU in the high end 27" iMac is much better, I'd recommend getting that if possible.

Instead of buying an extra 8gb of ram that probably won´t give you any performance boost for stracraft.
Buy the high end 27" with the HD6970m that will around DOUBLE your gaming performance!

The HD6970m is around twice as powerfull as the HD6770.
It has twice the amount of shaders 480 vs 960,
twice the memory bandwith 128 vs 256 bit
and at least double the memory 512 vs 1gb.

yes but what your telling me is that if i get the 2000 dollar mac i wont need any and i mean any ram upgrades.

RAM is something you can add, tomorrow, next week, or even next year.

But the Graphics GPU, you get one shot at it .... they day you buy the machine.

Don't blow your chance to have a better gaming machine for a little more RAM.
