Lastest MBP software update (8/10/07) not a good one?

I did the software update on Saturday morning and now Quake 4 runs funny. It graphically isn't as smooth as it was prior. Read somewhere that it contained updated drivers......not a fan of the updates. Is there a way to go back (still a Mac/OS X noob)?

Pop in your OS X setup disc, Archive and Reinstall...

you will be reinstalling the system from scratch, it shouldnt erase any of your data though. To be safe, you could back up everything before doing it. After its done, go to system updates, and check everything BUT the update causing the issues.

I would advise however, to just wait a few days, or reinstall the GAME. Reinstalling OS X could be a bit drastic in this situation...

As far as I know, there is no simple way to uninstall one particular update...

Not that I know of...i dont think you can do it on windows either, not sure...

[EDIT:] On windows you could Restore Points or something like that i guess... Time Machine should have a "restore to a previous time" option....it IS a time machine, is it not?

Try a PRAM reset first though.

Just make a bootable clone of your mac using CCC, SuperDuper, etc. before installing any system updates. If something goes wrong you can clone back and won't miss a beat. I do this before every software update install.

Archive and Install is a bit drastic at the moment - I'd do that after you try a few other suggestions.

Also, have you repaired your disk permissions? Usually help after an update.

I know its possible in Windows

I've done it several times with various nVidia drivers in XP. I'm just not sure in OS X. Since the rest of my programs run fine, and as the issue I have is with one game (not even a good one at that) I will probably live with it and hope for Apple to provide another update (I'm sure they'll be more).

I read somewhere this can be done by messing around under the UNIX covers (not something I'm apt to do) and gat completely hose the system if you mess up. Waiting sounds like a good idea to me.

I've installed the software update 1.1 on my MBP too and there are no bad occurrences since with some ressources-demanding games (NoLimits Rollercoaster) and other software.

Sorry that I can't help but I don't think it's the update that is responsible for your problems.

An excellent suggestion and I like CCC!
Works great and has saved me on a couple of occasions.

How long do you wait before you assume you are "safe"? Do you have a standard?
