So I just picked up a late 2009 MacBook model A1342 and I'm wondering if anyone knows a good resources for modifications.

Just a quick example, something like removing the Optical Drive and adding a SSD in its place.

Already upgraded the HD to a SSD and it's working great!! I might bump it up to 8GB of RAM but doesn't seem to be needed right now. Any other ideas? I was wondering if it'd be possible to add another fan to keep the machine cool, or an extended battery.

Also, I found a case on Amazon but is there any site exclusively for retro Mac accessories?

Thanks for any and all help :)

def bump up ram; you're at 4GB now? it's not enough these days, and 8 will make a difference. check out macsales.com, they may have something for the optical drive bay...

ifixit.com has instructions for adding the 2nd drive...if you need the space or want to have an onboard clone/backup.

I'm not that sure about giving it 8GB RAM...I can't guarantee it would make that big of a difference in that model.

I think I'd hold off on any upgrades until I'd used it a month or two as your judgement will be much better after seeing what it's good for.

That's what I was thinking. Nothing seems to be taxing it with the 4GB - at least not yet.

Might add an additional drive in that optical drive space. Totally adding setting up an external GPU with it too

I have that model. I upgraded the RAM to 4 when Mavericks killed it :( I thought that 4GB of RAM was the maximum for that model?
Just need a new battery foe mine as mines warped so much that it's sent the trackpad out!

It officially sipped with 4GB but it supports up to 6. Mactracker is a FANTASTIC app for that kind of info :)

You can find it here: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/mactracker/id430255202?mt=12

Yeah, the battery's max cycle count is 1000, anywhere near that it's a good idea to replace it, before it becomes exhausted.
