Late 2006 iMac 3GB or 4GB RAM?

I have a late 2006 20" iMac. I'm a little confused on whether the maximum RAM is 3GB or 4GB. This article from apple did nothing to clear up the confusion: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304284

Anyone have any input?

You can put 4 GB in the machine, but it will only recognize about 3.2 GB of that. So that's why Apple recommends that you just go with 3 GB and save a few bucks.

Thanks, that's what I figured but was a little confused by what apple's official documents were quoting.
