There is a difference in speakers sound between the Late 2009 21.5" and the 2011 27" and I would like to keep the sound of the 2009 21.5" with my 2011 27".

The 27" 2009 speakers would fit in the 2011, but wouldn't it sound the same ? Could I try to fit the 2009 21.5" speakers into the 2011 27", and will it work at all ?

I'm wondering if the 21.5" 2009-2010-2011 all sounds the same and the 27" 2009-2010-2011 too.

That's an interesting preference. I would have assumed that the difference would be in favor of the larger computer, as it would have more space for "better" speakers. (The general rule of thumb being that bigger speakers can produce more accurate bass than smaller speakers.)

In any case, I suspect the quality of the speakers themselves is not the only factor; the case harmonics also impact the sound. It's vaguely possible that you could harvest your old speakers and put them in that 27" chassis, only to discover that they now sound exactly the same as the speakers that were already in the 27" chassis in the first place.

Realistically, I would suggest that your very best bet for getting a reliably consistent -- and thereby "better" -- sound quality from any computer is to use a mid-to-high quality external sound system and adjust the equalizer on that sound system to match your personal preferences.

Thanks for the answer.

I did find a pair of 2009 27" speakers and put them into my 2011 27". I'm happy to say that it sounds like the 2009 21.5", maybe even a little better. It has space, deeper bass and medium clarity that the 2011 don't have.

I hear your advice on external speakers, in my case, I've just sold mine (Focal XS) to clear space and have less cables.

:)
