I'm attempting to upgrade the internal bluetooth on my late 2009 27" iMac. I installed the adapter board, card, disconnected the old bluetooth card and booted but see something strange. The machine gets sluggish and then crashes at the login screen while the wifi icon flickers between on and off. it appears as though its attempting to turn on the new wifi card and somehow failing. I'm running El Cap, latest updates.

I did not connect the power and usb cables since those involve a bit more work (new cables, cutting, perhaps some soldering) Is this necessary for the new wifi card to function? I was under the impression that it was for bluetooth functionality only.

I was hoping to test that wifi was working with the new setup before worrying about bluetooth.

I've attached two images of my new wifi card and the adapter board so you know what i'm working with.
