Hello everyone,

I purchased an iMAC 2374 a year ago off of a local site for my wife. This is the 27" model with the ATI Radeon HD 4850 512mb. Since we've had it, the fan would run loud and fast so when I was searching around on forums, I saw reference that this might be a symptom of a failing hard drive temperature sensor.

I have the i7 2.8GHz intel processor with 8gb of memory installed.

Seeing as the iMac had the OEM 1tb drive installed, I purchased the OWC 512mb SSD kit with mounting gear and temperature sensor.

After installing the OWC kit, I noticed that everything ran quiet for a day but the following day, the fans started to run a bit louder and harder.

So now I am back at square one. We like the iMac and I'd like to repair whatever is wrong with it.

I purchased the iStat menu to monitor temperatures and this is what I've noticed.

So looking at the temperature logs, I believe MXM refers to the video card? I notice that the GPU Die and GPU Heatsink temps are very high. The MXM Amps do fluctuate from 1.22A to 1.72A often.

These temps were taken with the pc just loading up a website to write this post.

Does it seem that my GPU is the cause of this issue? I did read around and it seems that a temporary solution is re-heating the video card in the oven and a proper solution is to reball the video processor?

Edit: right now I see that my CPU is running at 128 degrees Celsius.

Thank you

If you removed the screen, there’s a very good chance that you did not reconnect the inline connectors securely. An open circuit in any of the 3 temp sensors will cause the fans to run full. That it lasted one day and then failed makes me suspect something loose that is no longer connected properly.
