Ok all of you experienced Mac users, I could use some help. I purchased a used 1.42GHZ G4 Mac mini (my first Mac) last year just to see if I would like the Mac platform. The short answer is, I do.

I'm an amateur photographer, and and am running Lightroom 2 on this mini. As most likely would be expected, Lightroom is agonizingly slow. I plan to upgrade to a new Mac. My question is this - is anyone out there in Mac land running Lightroom 2 on a 2.53GHZ or 2.66GHZ Mac mini, and if so, how satisfied are you with the performance?

I'm not a gamer, and I don't mess with large video files but I do shoot raw digital so the digital picture files will be large and my photo libraries will be pretty good size as well.

Will a late 2009 Mac mini be enough for what I want to do? I don't want a Mac Pro, but have considered a 27" iMac. All of the many reported difficulties with the new iMacs have made me a little apprehensive about those, although I must say that huge display is amazing!!

Any help you could provide would be much appreciated.

I have a 2Ghz 2009 mini, and I personally wouldn't want to run LightRoom on it these days. It also depends what camera you're using. My 5D MKII's 21MP raw files are VERY intensive on the system. Even my new i7 iMac with 8GB takes its sweet time with those...

My boss has the same camera you do, and LightRoom running in 64bit mode on his top of the line, 16 core (8 physical, 8 virtual) MacPro, and it even bogs down that beast. Needless to say, get the most powerful computer you can possibly afford to run Lightroom!
