Last weekend I picked up the 2.6 ghz model with 2 gbs of ram. I'm planning on upgrading the ram to 4 gbs because I'm under the impression that this is the most you can put in the machine. However, in looking at info on the mac mini wikipedia site it says that the mini is Expandable to 8 GiB (4 GiB supported by Apple)
So how much ram will work in this machine? Can it really handle 8gbs?

What exactly does "unofficially" mean? Is there any chance of damaging the machine if I install 8gbs?

no it works you won't damage your machine. I have a 2009 2.66 mini with 8gb ram it works fine for more then 16 months. your chance of machine damage is nil because it is 8gb ram.

now you can break your machine if you stick the ram in wrong. you can break the machine if you pull a wire wrong etc. but if you put in 1 stick or 2 sticks of the correct ram in your mini and install them with proper seating you will be fine. look at install links the angle to install them is very important

I will hopefully be getting a 2010 mac mini today (as seen in my other thread) and have been looking for ram. Newegg has it for about 107 but on a whim i checked out amazon and found some nice kingston ones, but they are no longer on sale.

Found these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003NYISCC/ref=ord_cart_shr?ie=UTF8&m=A1C0E2G2LZFK00 and was wondering how they would work in the mini. It says it works with my kind and it is a 10600 and what not, but I am not sure about all the extra stuff on it.
