I have a mid 2010 MacBook white unibody that is stuck on the boot screen. It would do this intermittently
when I first upgraded to High Sierra, but not every time I reboot it stays stuck. It has 4gb RAM. I was needing suggestions for fixing this. I have heard some say upgrading the memory to 8gb will help.

If a SMC and NVRAM reset doesn't resolve the issue, there could be a problem with the ram, hard drive cable, or the hard drive itself.

If you have two ram modules, remove one module and try to boot.

Could be the hard drive cable. To test, place the hard drive into an external USB enclosure and use the Option key to boot from the external drive.
