Keys has it right in the post above.
Buy a "ready-to-go" SSD.
Initialize it for HFS+ with journaling enabled.
Then... either "clone over" from your existing drive (using CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper), or do a "fresh install", and then bring over what you need to.
A USB3 external SSD will run at about 85% the speeds of a SATA drive installed inside, without ANY of the hassle and chance of breaking something while you have it apart.
You should see read speeds of 430mbps, and writes from 275-375mbps (write speed depends on the drive brand and size).
