Hello,

Newbie here please go easy on me.

I am currently looking into upgrading the ram on my macbook 7,1 white unibody with new 1066 MHz PC3-8500 DDR3 SO-DIMMs (also upgrading the HDD to a Crucial SSD drive).

this means I am going to have two 1066 MHz PC3-8500 DDR3 SO-DIMMs modules, 2GB each, left over and since I have two free slots in my late 2012 27" imac, I was hoping I could put them in there alongside two 1600 MHz DDR3, 4GB each.

a) Could the iMac support the lower spec modules?
b) and would there be any serious latency issues with mixing these two module types?

Many thanks

--!! Edit !!-- both modules and specifications are 204 pin the only change is the MHz. --!! Edit !!--

It should work. However, doing that will bring the speed of all of your RAM modules down to 1066 MHz. For that alone I would not do it.
