Does anyone know if the Apple Stores still do battery replacements on a 2013 15"? Im pretty sure its considered obsolete now.

By all means, make an appointment at the Apple Store, if there's one close by.
My understanding is that even for a "vintage" item, they'll still do a battery replacement so long as they have stock of the required batteries...

I went to the one in Covent Garden (London, UK) yesterday and they told me they had no batteries for late 2013 15" MBP

I bought a new battery for my 2010 MBP from iFixit.com. So far the new battery is a significant improvement over the original battery.

Regent Street store didn’t have any either, but said that two Westfields and Brent Cross had one each.

Went to the latter one as it was closest next day and, of course, they didn’t have it.

While there, they got in touch with White City and reserved me the part - went over and left my MBP. Being Friday evening, there were lot of problems with trains, so a bit of faff. Said it will take 3-5-7-10 days - just waiting to hear back.

Annoyingly, by the time I go back to collect it, it’ll cost me another 10% in travel cost (on top of £199).

Update:

After one week they called me and told me that their indicators show water damage (not entirely sure how/when, possibly even just damp over the last 8 years) and, because they have no spare logic boards, they won't be able to perform any work on it as it would fail their tests. They said they can only do complete work on it, not a partial repair (such as battery replacement). Irony is, they gave me a laptop back with battery disconnected (I tested it in the store) and had to take it back to reconnect ?‍♂️?‍♂.

So, now back to square one. As I really don't need new top case/keyboard (guy who took my laptop in even commented how nice condition it is in), I will do the replacement myself. SLODA and NinjaBatt are available on Amazon, and both have mixed reviews (especially about them failing in under a year, due to old age/chemicals) - which was the main reason to go to Apple.

One more update:

Got the SLODA battery (mainly because I remember using one with my 2008 Unibody) and installed it myself. Took nearly three hours: more than two was spent in taking out the old one (I was being super careful as it was swollen), another 30 minutes to clean all the residue glue and less than 10 to fit the new one in and close up.

Coconut battery reports it is only 2 months old and with a higher capacity than designed. Just finishing the calibration now, and hopefully it'll work well and last good time.

Good to hear this update. What's the current capacity?
