Hi all,

My late 2013 15" rMBP won't power on. I was already having issues with the battery -- when it was 100% charged, it only took an hour to drain the battery (the indicator was on, advising I needed to replace the battery, which I was deferring as I was looking for a new MBP). The keyboard was giving me issues -- I had to plug in an external keyboard via USB.

I was trying to set up & connect a printer via USB. The battery was showing 20% left. Then the rMBP screen went dark. Even after charging the rMBP, the light on the MagSafe was showing green.

Now I can't even turn it on :(

Any help would be appreciated.

You may need to go ahead and replace the battery, of course. Dead batteries can prevent the machine from working at all, from what I've read.

Another thing to check, though, is the MagSafe connection. Sometimes the indicator lights show a good connection when there is none, due to dirt in the port or plug, or to wear. If cleaning it doesn't help, sometimes jiggling it in the socket does.

I took the MBP to the Apple store. When a Magsafe power adapter was plugged in, the indicator light was showing green. They think it may be an issue with the logic board -- caps lock wasn't showing "on." And the pressing the power button didn't do anything. They also tried using an external keyboard.

They suggested I take the MBP to MicroCenter. :(

There is a trick with a screw driver and resting that on 2 nodes near the keyboard connection on the logic board.
this is how repair people used to power on MacBook several year sago.
i can walk you through this if interested.
this is easy and safe!

Attached are 2 pictures of my late 2013 rMBP: I highlighted the keyboard connector that is unplugged (please confirm)

The second picture is the portion of the back -- can you confirm which are the power pads?

Thanks again.

the one closest to the keyboard ribbon, or just try both.
now gently place the small screwdriver on the 2 points until you hear the chime.
this might be a few seconds
the logic board is covered with a film that prevents shortage, but still be careful not to tap anything else.
keep the batter attached, but the MBP unplugged!

this will work
keep the battery ribbon connector plugged in, or this wont work (physic 101)
tap any 2 points near the keyboard ribbon connector for several seconds,
those 2 on the top, left of that round circuit would be my first try.
and wait for the chime,
there are SRAM reboots as well, bit you need the power button working.
