Hello All,

Are these games playable on my machine?

I honestly don't know much about hardware. I checked the minimum Mac system requirements for Diablo 3 on Blizzard's site, and it looks like the game requires a dedicated graphics card.

My system specs:
2.4 GHz Intel Core i5
8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Intel Iris
OSX 10.9.4

I called AppleCare to see if there is a model # associated with the integrated graphics chip, but they weren't able to tell me anything with any certainty other than "Intel Iris."

Re: Diablo 3
If Diablo III won't run on my system, I'll just get it for xbox one when it releases next week. But I'd prefer to play it on my rMBP if possible.

Re: Dungeon Defenders
I purchased this game earlier this summer, and it just doesn't run. I can't even control the pointer accurately on the menu screen and the sound is very choppy. However, I've read that people have been playing this game on older versions of rMBP 13". So I'm a bit confused.

Pretty funny, I have the same exact laptop and those are my 2 primary games.

Diablo3 works really well on medium settings at 900p I get 30+ FPS, on crazy mob and skill sets it drops below 10FPS thou.

Dun Def works but like you say sounds is completely screwed, everything is either choppy or just static, if you disable sounds and post processing I can get it running at medium/low without any lag outside of crazy amounts of towers.

theromz, thanks.

Re: Diablo 3, I was under the impression that mass mobs and skill sets are a common occurrence in the game. Is that the case? I'm concerned that I might get crappy FPS too often.

My brother has Diablo 3 for PC, and I would like to be able to play with him. But like I mentioned in my OP, I'll settle for the Xbox One version if my laptop just isn't up to snuff.

Re: Dungeon Defenders, your suggestions worked wonders! Disabling sound not only got rid of the static annoyance, but it actually made the game run a hell of a lot smoother. The other thing I noticed is that the game just doesn't like Apple's magic mouse—like I said, it's difficult to even control the pointer in menus (but I discovered that the trackpad works fine). It looks like I just need to get a gaming mouse.

I never intended to play games on this laptop, but my brother talked me into looking into Diablo 3. And I used to play Dungeon Defenders on the Xbox 360; when I saw Steam's sale this summer, I just couldn't pass it up.

theromz, another question: Do you know what graphics are laptops are running? I believe it's Intel Iris 5100, but I'm not sure.

Yeah the sounds is totally broken which makes it difficult to play with friends over the mic. For D3 I only ever drop below 10FPS when there is 5+ elite packs and a huge number of crazy skills at the same time my friend with a 780TI also drops below 10FPS so its a lot more to do with just the game not being properly coded as it is with most MMOs. For 95% of the time its perfectly fine.

I have a Logitch wireless mouse and have no issues, I use it mostly for gaming/photoshop and then fall back to my magic trackpad for everything else, don't have any experience with the magic mouse thou.
