Late 2013 rMBP still worth it today?

I realize it's about 2.5 years old, but it has the specs I want and a better price (mid 2014 2.6ghz 8gb 256ssd 13.3in is $745 or $800 w/AppleCare vs late 2013 same specs except 2.4ghz is $675). I'm looking to keep it until 2019 or so.

Thanks for any help. This is a bigger purchase of mine and I want to feel secure.

At that price it's a great deal. The 2013 rMB sells for $1k+ in the US refurb store. It's a nice laptop.. I wouldn't comment on how well it will hold up over the next few years.

of course. I still use 2011 MBP until now and it really fast with a few upgrade (SSD and RAM).

I think it'll be a huge upgrade for me with from my current machine. Do you have applecare/insurance on your 2011? Are you concerned with it dying anytime soon?

No. I think apple care/insurance just wasting my money. If my macbook dying or broke, I will fix it to 3rd party repair shop. Fixing on apple cost ton of money btw.

My Late 2013 is about to turn two soon and still feels like brand new. The 2014 model is a bit faster, but it's only noticeable when doing the heavy lifting. During normal usage that thing flies like it doesn't even care. So if you're on a budget, get the 2013 and don't worry.

The mid 2014 was a very minor speed-bump, the only difference is a slightly faster processor which will only be noticeable during CPU-intensive tasks and even then the difference is small.

Sounds great! Did you get Applecare with it? I'm slightly worried about passing up the 2014 w/a few months left of warranty but then again I don't want it to be an added expense for nothing.

It has AppleCare good until January 2017, but I've so far never had to use it.

Expecting the non replaceable battery to still be good in 2019 is probably being overly optimistic. They're designed for 3 years, you'll be pushing double that.

still a strong machine, i had that, the 2014 version and the 2015 and differences are very minimal on normal use.
unless you do heavy stuff u wont notice a difference.
i would get applecare if u can just to be safe, i like doing it, but i never needed it.
also, the new redesign should come in june so if u can wait until july, u will find the 2013 version for even cheaper.
