Hello

Have anyone had a GPU crash on the new MacBook Pro 2016 ?
It happened to me 4 times now : Screen freezes only cursor is moving.
I have 15" maxed out BTO (AMD 460)

Log file has the following entry
Dec 1 20:47:51 XXXXX-MacBook-Pro DumpGPURestart[15326]: Saved gpuRestart report for kernel to /Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/Kernel_2016-12-01-204751_XXXXX-MacBook-Pro.gpuRestart

I had it happen on the one I had with the 455. I could use the menus up top and open apps from the dock, but I couldn't close, minimize, or maximize them. I couldn't click on anything in the program's either. I had to do a restart. It only happened once and it was the first time I turned it on.

hey guys,

I posted in another thread, but I guess it was more for here. Here is what's happening to me:

I have a similar problem. Haven't experienced full color flashes but the system hangs (nothing works, I can only move the mouse) and it seems to be at the exact moment when the switch between the two GPUs occur. It's happened at least 10 times in the last 3 days. Once I were able to replicate this by Disabling the option "Automatic graphics switching" and once by using gfxCardStatus. I'm trying to replicate it again but no luck for the last couple of hours. I am also experiencing the graphics glitch on login and another one when using Time Machine. I took a photo of the Time Machine glitch and a screenshot as well. The glitch on the screenshot is not visible so isn't that an indication that the problem is not in the OS? Maybe firmware based or a hardware one. As to the log, I see a lot of .gpuRestart events related to the Intel GPU.

Is any of you seeing the lines I have on Time Machine?

Hi,
Several times a day. Sierra newly installed - no success. Everything deactivated - no success. Ssd several times with disk utility repaired - no success.
Mostly when waking up (the macbook is also quite hot)
I suspect that it is related to the ubs-c / tunderblot-2 (original apple) ... just a suspect.
3200 € for such a scrap

I've experienced all of these issues. There are TONS of gpuRestart crashes. I've had full-color flickering screens. Weird lines in Time Machine. I have the AMD 450 GPU.

I can almost guarantee it happening when I plug in in my 2 external monitors via USB-C to DisplayPort cable.

I think it's software related, because this is my second machine. I returned the first for this exact problem, and it's still happening.

I sincerely hope they fix it soon.

This happened to me a lot recently. It seemed that this issue happened every time when I switched between home and office external monitors, for which I had to do a hard reset :(

Good-ish news! Mac OS 10.12.3 was released today, and it seems to fix the problem.

Installing it, however, caused a boot-loop (apple logo, progress bar, kernel panic, reboot, apple logo, progress bar... ) until I unplugged my monitors completely, and let the update install without any peripherals attached.

I also say "seems" since I've had some times where the problem doesn't occur in the past, but then it came back after a day or so. Also, after unplugging my monitors, I had the machine fail to wake from sleep when I got home... So, at least possibly a step in the right direction.

Will update here in a few days to see how things are then.

Dear! Finally I found people that have (almost) the same problem than me!

I received my 1st MacBook Pro 2016 with Radeon 460, and I was experiencing freezes 10 or 20 times per day, during 5s to 40s... I finally figured out that was happening when the system decides to switch the Graphics Card (thanks to gfxCardStatus).

So, I've called Apple in December to ask for a diagnostic. they were unable to give me any appointment in Paris, so they pushed me to a Premium Partner (that sucks btw, I will NEVER accept that again). They opened my Mac and disassembled the Graphics card from the mother board.... etc, etc... After 4-5 weeks of patience I've asked Apple to replace my Mac with a new one (more than 4000EUR+AppleCare that deserves one no?). And they did. I've received it today (7 weeks later!!!).

So, of course I've tried to reproduce the issue. And.... it's still happening. :-(

My test case: I launch a game, in instance Civilization VI based on Steam, as soon as it launches, I see the Graphics card switch and the laptop freezes 30-40s. Nothing responds, no mouse, no keyboard, no touchbar, a dead body.

I run Mac OS X 10.12.3 (Build 16D32), so this doesn't seem to solve anything to me. And I do see any file *.gpuRestart...

Also having this problem. I happen to have the Nvidia driver installed (needed it for City: Skylines at one point long ago because the default driver left screen artifacts and other wonkiness). I'm going to try with the default macOS driver to see if that helps. :-/
