I know the Boot Camp drivers that are shipping with the latest Mac Pro includes 64-bit drivers for Vista, but I was wondering if anyone has tried to see if they work on XP x64? That's the 64-bit Windows version I have on hand and it would be nice to get it to work. I don't suppose the drivers that shipped with the MacBook Air are any newer?

You would think that Apple would jump to support XP x64 given the commercials about people switching back from Vista to XP.

I'm pretty sure I've read that they don't work on XP x64. Hope I'm wrong.
I'm waiting for XP x64 bootcamp as well.

I've read of a couple people that have gotten xp64 to work. Seems like they've had to go and get some 3rd party drivers, as some of the apple ones didn't work.

it works. at best, the drivers for wireless doesn't. the boot camp menu doesn't work because it thinks your using a windows 2003 system, not xp or vista.

Check driveragent.com
I think they charge you to download the drivers from them, but it's kinda worth it.

I know it's been possible with third-party drivers for a while, but
I'd rather not go down that route. I'm certainly ready to throw
third-party stuff at Linux and even a bit at Mac OS X, but when it
comes to Windows, I'm rather conservative.

The fact that the Boot Camp that comes with the new Mac Pros
works with Vista x64 suggests to me that more uinversal x64 support
is on the way. When it happens, and when VMware Fusion supports them
as a Boot Camp VM, then I'll have everything I want. I can be patient.

OK, I've been looking at this more closely, inspired by these
instructions for getting iTunes working in XP x64.

http://yukichigai.googlepages.com/iphonex64

The Boot Camp that comes with the Mac Pro is apparently
Boot Camp 2.0.1, and that includes support for Vista x64.

Check out this MacRumors thread to see how to get
your own copy of Boot Camp 2.0.1.

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/418220/

(I wonder how Apple plan to distribute an update to Boot
Camp 2.0.1 officially? I have Leopard and Boot Camp 2.0.0,
but haven't created a Boot Camp partition up until now because
all I have is XP x64 and Vista x64.)

Using the same Orca MSI editing software used to get
iTunes to install, I looked around inside the BootCamp64.msi
file that comes with Boot Camp 2.0.1.

Looking for references to VERSIONNT (which has a value
of 502 for XP x64), it looks like Boot Camp x64 is a bit more
complicated than iTunes x64, with more driver installations
controlled by the version, but it looks do-able.

Maybe someone with more free time than me and a Mac
to experiment on can investigate this more thoroughly
and give it a try.

(By the way, I think one reason why Apple is hestitating
in generally releasing Boot Camp x64 is the fact that the
Vista SP1 release is imminent. A lot of the version tests
in the MSI test service pack level as well as version
number. Moreover, service pack levels in XP x64 do
not correspond directly to those for regular XP, such
that XP SP2 is (about) equivalent to XP x64 SP1.
If you look at the version testing syntax in the MSI file,
you'll see how it can get very complicated very fast with
all those versions available.)

any update on getting the xp64 bootcamp to install? I've got everything working on my laptop other than the kbdmgr.exe and everything that comes with it. I got a guy at work to take the limitations off the .msi file so it installs but when it comes to the kbdmgr.exe file it fails and rolls back the installation.

Any ideas?

If you can get every driver installed, the only thing you will probably 100% fail on are the trackpad left click, and the keyboard hot-key functions (for volume and brightness and backlit keyboard). You can also use keyboard remapper to fix the hot-key issue. I would love to run XP 64-bit because it runs like an absolute charm in VM Ware.

i've got right click working and multitouch trackpad. I used the key remapper 1.04 and got the eject key and sound keys to work. Onlt thing that doesn't work is the screen brightness controls. I need xp64 for rendering and at the moment i can't turn the screen off on my mbp. Really annoying as my render times are 10hrs or so. I've made xp show a blank screen as a screen saver but the backlight stays on.

Just get Vista 64. It's pretty good, really. Definitely better than XP. The people wanting to downgrade to XP are just clueless. They've probably never even used Vista, or they wouldn't downgrade. Trust me. I work on an XP machine all day, at work. On my MacBook, I use Vista 64 for gaming. It's tons better than XP. (But still not as good as Leopard, though.)

i had vista64 with all the latest updates for everything. It barely worked at all in parallels 4 or fusion 2. I had to have a separate installation of xp64 just for parallels which took 20gb. I had 30gb of space being used with vista and didn't have any room on my HDD to make it any bigger. It was just unusable and extremely slow. I tried persevering with it for over a year (really didn't want to make the switch as when they bought out the bootcamp64 i had everything working perfectly). It was just too big and too slow. I'm thinking about installing windows 7 on an external device to see what thats like
