As I'm sure you've heard or seen, Instagram released a big app update yesterday that change their icon and the app's UI. I got the update and the only thing that changed was the icon and not the UI. Everyone I talk to have the updated UI as well.

Anyone else having this issue? I've uninstalled the app, restarted, install again with no success. I've also "hide" the purchase of Instagram from my account so that the app store thinks it's a brand new download. That didn't work either.

I download on my iPad Pro 9.7" and the new UI is present.

If it matters, I'm on iPhone 6s.

Yes, its happening to me too. Shows the new icon but the old UI. Weird.

It's fine on my 6s. I would rather be in your situation and have the older UI.

idk bro, just wait for another update and maybe the bug will be fixed

They most likely use A/B Testing, so not all users will have the same features / UI at the same time. You can try force closing the app from the app switcher then reopen it, which will force a full refresh and might change things for you if they are using this method.

The new icon and UI is cancer... Its bad. It literally looks like they are supporting feminism. They have managed to turn a classy app into a cheesy girly looking app. Hate it.

Why would they A/B test on an update they are actively promoting?

Also, the new UI loads on my iPad Pro. Same account. So it's not an account level thing.

Testing never ends & allows you to roll it out slowly. A/B tests are usually device specific not just account enabled and then a sample size, hence why you see an inconsistency. Spotify did a similar thing recently with their UI change moving from the hamburger to bottom nav bar.

But does that actually app update is pushed to the Apple Store? And the update logs say what the update is for?
That sounds more like a beta update or an update pushed to just some, if you received the update in the store you should have the update.

Anyways I got the update a couple of days ago, and only have the new icon no new layout.

Deleted istagram a few times and reinstalled and nothing. Rebooted phone, it happened to my mother in laws android phone but a couple of hours later she had the new layout. It's been days for me.

Yeah same issue here on an iPhone 6 (128GB)

I updated on my work phone (5SE) using the same Instagram account and that shows the new UI.

A/B Testing apps come with everything & are just switched on / off remotely via a silent notification to whatever sample of users you want to expose to the test. You can also use it this way to move users from your 'old' UI to 'new' in waves rather than all at once. There are multiple reasons for doing this but when you're app is widely used as Instagram's, doing it in waves vastly cuts down the change you'll be front page news because of a problem with the change.

Updated to version 8.2 today and when I open the app I see the new UI for a split second then back to the blue. So annoying!
