I have an older iPhone 7 Plus, ever since the update to 12.1.4, it killed my cellular connection so I was unable to make phone calls. Attempting to do a restore on iTunes failed, bricking the phone and preventing it from being able to turn on.

I was able to get it back again by using another iTunes to do a restore. The cellular works again, but now the screen freezes, tapping on apps doesn't work, and it's generally nonresponsive. Hard resets doesn't work, so the next step is to reset all settings, and failing that wipe the phone and start over.

I actually got a replacement from Verizon and the SAME ****ing **** is happening, so I can confirm this is software related.

Anyone else have similar issues, particularly with older iPhones? I have another Xs Max that worked fine with the upgrade to 12.1.4, but this is hands down the worst upgrade I've ever seen so far on my older phone. Appreciate any feedback on how this can be fixed.

My wife has a 7 Plus on 12.1.4 and it runs beautifully. You said you got a replacement and the same thing is happening. Maybe it’s an app on the phone that’s the issue? Have you tried to install 12.1.4, without any apps and test it that way? Might be a corrupted backup?

12.1.4 has been great on my X and my Air2 with no issues like you’re experiencing.. Since it’s happening on two different devices I’d say you have some type of corruption in your software. As @scjr suggested, restore using a fresh download of 12.1.4 through iTunes with no backup or and only the native apps to see how it performs..

Xs max here but my son has an iPhone 7 plus and it's running fine on this iOS version.

Have you tried setting up the phone as new and perhaps installing minimal apps to begin with to see if that could be a factor?

Have you tried restoring / installing as new and see if the problems exist - don't restore your back up or data. If OK then it is your backup'd data and stuff causing the problems

Try DFU fresh clean restore, setup as new, don’t load any apps yet, Then test it see what happens.

Resetting all settings didn't work, so next is to wipe the phone. I'll try DFU after that since that's a bit more involved and the relative the phone belongs too isn't very tech savvy.
