So I know that one has to rebuild the Launch Service database to correct duplicate apps showing up in the menu when accessing the "open with" command, and I know how to do this using Onyx, and it does correct the problem, but in a very short time, the problem returns.

Any ideas as to what could be causing this. I think I remember someone saying that using SuperDuper could cause this issue, but I'd like a little info.

Interesting...Could this be an app you downloaded from the mac app store, deleted it, then re downloaded from another location?

Have you tried deleting both versions, rebuilding launch services, then re downloading?

It does seem to be related to certain App Store apps. Every single time a Pixelmator update comes out it creates a duplicate open with entry on my machine. I have not deleted or reinstalled the app or anything else unusual.

I *think* it happens most when you clone your drive with something like superduper or CCC.

I clone with CCC and this causes most apps to double.

I'm sure there are other issues that cause single apps to double....no idea why though.
