Lauren, girl to girl, let me tell you something as someone who has experienced both windows (even the new boy) Vista and mac..

Mac will be up and at it in no time.
Mac will keep going longer and harder and will never let you down.

Windows takes ages to get going!

Windows has been a bit free and easy and you will need protection. But he is a sensitive soul and let you know to the point of exasperation that you don't have enough protection and the truth is he's right, you probably haven't.

Mac is strong and silent, he is always there, always ready for you, always up.

Boy is windows moody. You will have to control, alt delete before you know it and still he won't respond, there is no shaking him out of it when he gets like this! I try I make sure he has he needs but he still lets me down. Trying to break him out of these non responding episodes would test any relationship! But if know how to control, alt delete at least you can get by.

Lauren, please just listen to some good advice, true mac is a bit more but in the long run he will pay you back ten fold. He is that sort of guy, he is loyal and he just keeps going and going and going. He never tires, he is relentless and will always satisfy you, fully.

Windows may look attractive at first but he will let you down and you life will crash big time,

Lauren wanted a laptop w a 17" screen with low resolution, a slow AMD processor, an entry-level version of Vista, and comfy keyboard. And yes, I bet she even prefers her vehicles have wheels, at the very least.

They told Lauren up front she would have the machine free if it matched those *cough*lame characteristics - for all we know Lauren just wanted a a quick buck on eBay. And, very interestingly (as has been pointed out innumerable times) there was no mention of the OS (M$ being a software company this is very fishy). The ad could just as easily have been for HP.

That ad is so stacked you need a stepladder. You want to have truth in advertising, do a follow up ad showing Lauren waiting for hours on the phone while you wait for an Indian-accented customer support guy to talk down his nose to you. I bet she wouldn't be as aggravatingly bubbly in that scenario.

LMAO, truth in ads? classic pc vs mac ads is there to lead the innovation of lying ads.

Just look at the repair forum, the thousands of "help my MAC isn't booting" threads. However, I agree about the "boot time". My macbook pro boots way faster than my windows/linux machines.

How is windows at fault for badly written programs/drivers? I've never used the Task Manager to force quit a program on Vista.

On the mac, I had to SEVERAL time force quit ITunes cause it goes into "determining gapless information" and stutters OSX constantly. And I had to force quit several times before it would finally quit. Also, sometimes it would cause Finder to stop working and I couldn't shutdown or restart. I had to force a power shutdown.

Apple biggest fault is there are lots of things people want/need and do not want to pay a huge premium to get them.

17in screen for example is great for watching movies on.

While getting a PC built to the same level as a respective mac is fairly competitively price (not debating that issue). But note the words in bold. They are built to the same level.

Now lets change the rules a little bit and give a list of requirements of what a person needs/wants in a computer. This is apple fault to get some of the more common things people want you have to pay a huge premium and pay for a lot of extra crap you do not want/need. This started in the desktops with video or lack of a real video card and no upgradeable. That makes a huge cost difference to go up to those.

In laptops the good example is the 17in monitor requirement. Big monitor on computers generally means they are easy to move desktop replacements. They are good to move to a libarry or some where else you plan on working for a while. They work great if you just want to be able to move around a dorm/apartment/house because it is not like you are really traveling. To met the 17in requirement on apple you have to pay a huge premium for a bunch of extra crap you do not even really want/need.

Agreed. I've had to hold the power button on my Mac pro and my iMac many time simply because the spinning beach ball would never stop and force quit would not come up either.

When people come here and say that Macs are so wonderful and never have problems, well they haven't seen the Apple support forums lately. Brand new Mac Pros out of the box dead in the water.

Windows based computers are far from perfect as well. I have two HP laptops sitting here that I lost my patience on and are no longer working because of that, one was less then a year old that I purchased last July. There have been several times that I've wanted to send my 23" ACD sailing across the room because the Mac Pro locked up or was running to slow but the thing that stops me is the price. It would take years to save up $3000 to replace it unlike a non Mac brand where I can just go out and get another one tomorrow.
