Hello,

I've a late 2006 intel iMac 24" (white). My LCD is on his way to be unusable, usual problems that affects imac LCD are devouring it :(

I'd like to swap the LCD but Im not sure if I can replace it with other iMac 24 LCD panels that are not exactly the same model.

There are few ebay auctions that sold the LM240WU2 SLB2 panel but my imac has the LM240WU2 (nothing else on the white tag on the back of the LCD). I don't know if LM240WU2 and LM240WU2 SLA1 are the same model, and if they are compatible in any way.. googling around didn't help me a lot.

Does anyone know if its possible to use a "new" LM240WU2 SLB2 panel with the late 2006 iMac 24"?

thanks in advance.. your experience is my only chance to save a very good performing machine :"(

SL-B2 Glossy SL-A1 Matted

I have been looking at this question as well and have seen the LM240WU2 SL-B2 panels on ebay
So far i did a response from one of the sellers stating that the LM240WU2 SL-B2 would be compatible in my iMac the white 2.16 24"
it originally had a LM240WU2 SL-A2 which is cracked. The difference he explained was SL-A1 is matted finish the SL-B2 is the newer glossy finish

So far this is the best I've found but can't say this is fact since Im not a expert and this info came from a eBay seller not Apple

I would try researching the welovemacs website for the Apple part number.

Over the years I've been astounded by the pricing of Apple LCD panels and other seemingly mundane parts . . . are they truly washed in "unicorn tears?" ;)

great news!
I just replaced my LM240WU2-SL-A1 with the brand new LM240WU2-SL-B2 ordered on ebay .. and it works great ! my white imac from late 2006 is like a brand new iMac now :D I'M SOO HAPPY! I've lost the matte screen, because the SL-B2 is glossy but I totally forgot how amazing are brilliant colours, my old screen had lost most of its brightness.

Replacing the screen was quite easy and took half an our at most using just a torx T8 screwdriver.

Once you have removed the white cover, the second thing you have to remove to access any other component is the LCD screen itself; it was my second time so I knew what to do but it was easy the first time too.

The screen I got was without the frame to attach it to the metallic body of the iMac so I had to unscrew it from the old LCD and mount it on the new one. The frame itself is attached with 8 t8 screws and its composed of two metallic reinforcements (one to the left and one to the right of the screen) and some sort of antistatic tape. Just be careful with the tape, it looks fragile. Once you have moved the frame from the old LCD to the new one you are almost done. Attach the two cables on the back of the LCD and enjoy your refurbished new iMac :)

Your old LCD panel only lasted 3 years?

still got the cracked screen?

Hi

I've got a similiar, but completely different problem. ;)

I've got a 24" iMac, late 2006 and the screen inverter has died on me. Sadly the inverter comes as part of the LCD unit, and cannot be purchased separately. So, I'm looking at buying a full LCD screen to replace an electronic component which probably only costs £30 or so. Not an option that I'm keen on.

So, I was wondering - does anyone reading this thread still have their original faulty/cracked LCD screen? Chances are that the inverter will be absolutely fine, and I dont need the screen.

Obviously I'd be willing to pay for the inverter/screen, and shipping to the UK.

Can anyone help please? Many thanks.

Thanks
Paul
