I ordered a new LCD for my iPod 5th generation from PDAParts. Last night I attempted the swap and all went well with the disassembly (of course, because I'm just ripping it apart). However, the new LCD seemed to match until I tried to insert the ribbon cable. After a good long try I finally compared the two ribbon cables under a magnifying glass. Although the screens look identical, the actual connector is a fraction wider on the new LCD, perhaps the wide of one pin. It simply won't fit and the old ribbon fits right back in, so I know I didn't gum it up.
Could I have the wrong LCD, or more to the point, could revised versions of the 5th generation iPod have different screens? I may attempt to count the pins if my eyes can handle the task.
I've unsuccessfully looked for a model number on the two LCDs.
Thanks,
dgp
