LCD screen: MBP or SR MBP?

I don't need the extra speed of the SR MBP and thus I'm considering getting the 2,16 C2D MBP. It seems to run cooler than the SR, and it would make me save some money too.
I have a question for those who tried both: is the C2D screen that bad? I know many people were/are unhappy with it.
Is the SR's LCD screen so much better in terms of sharpness/view angle?

Honestly - I have used both, they are both great screen's. I have the LED screen and its simply amazing, the colors are so sharp and crisp, it is scary. It really depends on what your going to be using the MBP for (photoshop or surfing the web) If you have the money, get the new LED's SR MBP's, you get a new computer with faster speed, nicer video card, etc, etc.

Do you really think the older ones are cooler? Cause despite what people say on these forums, I thought the SR runs cooler at idle then the CD, and the C2D, I never owned, but from my experience at the store.

I have both a 2.4GHz SR MBP and a 2.33GHz C2D MBP (selling the 2.33GHz soon, even though it is perfect). I think the screen on the 2.33GHz is fine. In comparison to to the LED, it is dimmer and a tad 'grainy' for lack of a better word but otherwise fine. The 2.33GHz runs cooler but not by much, I would say less than 5C difference. However, the fact that the drivers for Merom and the ATI X1600 are much more mature means there is not much performance difference between the two, at least in my hands. One program I use daily that runs on OpenGL is nearly twice as fast on the 'old' 2.33GHz C2D MBP, on account of better drivers. But I'm sure the Nvidia drivers will catch up at some point. I would say they are comparable machines and if you want to save $$ it is not hard to find the 2.16/2.33 out there.

I don't know where you got the idea that the C2Ds were cooler; they are both probably the same.

I know a lot of people who were unhappy with the C2D screens, esspecially iWoot. Send a PM, and ask if he/she thinks the SR screens are better. Personally, I think they're great.

The MBP SR is really cool compared to my older laptops.
I have absolutely no problems having my SR MBP against bare skin while watching movies, surfing etc.
I can actually have it on my lap while playing world of warcraft for quite some time without feeling it's too hot.

As for screen quality I can't really say that my 15" SR is better viewing angle than my roomies 17" 2.33Ghz MBP

I've had quite a few of both models. I think the new LED-lit LCDs are much nicer than the older ones. The main objections I had with the old models was that they had that terrible grainy look to them. Whites and solids looked as if covered in dust. I also always had trouble with the viewing angles and uneven illumination, and found it difficult to get an optimum angle for looking at the display. There was always one part that looked like it had a shadow. I had several samples of both the 09c57 (chimei) and 09c60 (AUO) displays - the 09c57 was a little a better in terms of grain, but it had a very bright strip at the bottom. The 09c60 had bad grain.

By comparison, the new LED displays have virtually no grain, slightly better viewing angles and are brighter and seem more evenly illuminated. While they are not perfect in terms of illumination distribution and vieiwng angles either, I almost never have a problem finding a good viewing angle the way I did with the old ones. These displays are very very good as far as laptop displays go, though not as good as Sony's best laptop displays.
