Hi guys, recently I heard so much about LoL and decided to give it a go, guess what, the mac client has been taken off shelf until god knows when.
So, is there any other mac compatible LoL like games u could recommend?
Cheers.

Possible, alternatives?

There's a few homebrew clients out there you can check out if you really want to play LoL now and on os x. There's also more DOTA(Defence of The Ancients) style games out. If you have warcraft III you can get the original as a mod, but that's really old. There's also HoN (Heroes of Newearth) and DoTA 2 is in beta right now and comes out sometime 2012 on steam. Hope this helped :)

actually, LoL on mac is very playable and fun.

if you go to this website: http://www.boompje.net/ just download and follow the easy steps. no need for modding of files, just a download.

i play on a 2010 macbook air with a 1.86Ghz core2duo and the nvidia 320m. i get about 25-30 FPS when playing on all medium settings.

Enjoy!

thanks for the help guys!

I'm playing LoL under boompje now but i get extremely low FPS...i have MBP c2d 2.66ghz, 9400/9600m gt display, 4 gb ram...i already using lowest settings and I'm curious how to get FPS like u......

Downloading the torrent from the site right now. So excited once I saw there was a Mac option. However, I am a bit weary that performance for my very old laptop will be significantly worse in OSX than in WinXP. The game runs perfectly smooth in WinXP - just am usually one of the slower loaders. Hope it runs as well in OSX.

Will report back on my findings.

I had issues with the torrent version (wouldn't get past Adobe AIR part of install, even though I already had it and re-installed it), so I tried the rapidshare link (#1). Worked like a charm.

It doesn't run as well as natively in WinXP, which is to be expected. Probably 10-19 FPS is the norm on Low/Auto settings, which actually is fine, but when multiple summoners are in an area battling, I can drop into 5-8 FPS and I had a lag death or three.

I guess it's decent enough for a rare game in OSX, but real games will have to stick in WinXP where I get better FPS in all scenarios.

I have the windows XP version 2007 so i just want to confirm that the will this game be installed on this system or i should need the other version.

You can run the game natively in Windows XP or you can use the link above to download a client to run in OSX. If your computer is very old and outdated like mine, you would probably be better off performance wise in Windows.

Try Heroes of Newerth - runs perfect on Mac, looks great, is free and makes a lot of fun (i played Dota before).

Looks like it could be a fun version to play in OSX, but even with nerfing settings to low, it seems like there's too much glitz in the game to run on my horribly ancient laptop. Probably something with my integrated GPU shader or something, as the game seems to run fine, but everything except my hero is black and outlined in green, minus rare flickers of regular lighting.

Bootcamp anyone? I run Windows 7, and it runs LoL like a dream! 1080p res on a 23" monitor, high settings (but medium shadows), and 30-50 FPS! Overclocked 320M (2010 MBP) ftw!

I've tried the Mac OS version, but I can never get good performance from that. I've also tried using Parallels to virtualize Windows 7 and run it on there, still not as good as Bootcamping it.

Sounds good, but Heroes of Newerth is bugged on Lion. It plays, but I don't think they ever fixed the sound for Lion yet. Right now, it has no sound at all.

If anyone has the choice between League of Legends and Heroes of Newerth, I'd urge you to pick LoL over HoN.

I do believe HoN runs better than LoL, due to LoL being a homemade Cider port.
I haven't played LoL much, but I found HoN more challenging where the gameplay has more elements that makes it "harder" like denying enemy kills, which you can't in LoL.

Anyways, both are great games and it's shame Riot abandoned the mac client.

I'm ignoring what plays better. I'm basing my recommendation on the communities. The HoN community is full of mouth breathing, rude, obnoxious, ignorant cretins. On LoL's absolutely WORST day, it's still better than HoN's community.
