A few days ago I decided to treat my Leather Link Saddle Brown with Obenauf Heavy Duty LP. Today I did the same with my Leather Link Black. Now time will tell if this cream protects or if the straps disintegrate or deteriorate in some way. Update on my experiences will come.

I really don’t think it will do much as you are putting this protective cream over leather that already has a thin layer of rubber paint and coating on it to the point these bands look more like plastic then they do leather.

Maybe this would work better with the Hermes leather bands as it’s more a 12 grain leather that’s not painted.

It’s worth a try. Although, from what I’ve seen, the problem isn’t the leather as much as the paint on top.

I’ve seen pictures of the yellow leather link losing it’s color and the leather looks fine. It’s just that the paint has rubbed off. Those creams are meant to help prevent the leather from drying out and cracking.

But it’s interesting little experiments like this that make MacRumors so much fun.

Yeah, I used Saphir Renovateur (beeswax and refined mink oil are the main ingredients) on both my saddle brown and black leather link bands. I didn’t really notice much of a difference afterwards, besides a nice luster … it certainly didn’t damage the bands, in any case.
