Leaving iPhone

So I've been an iPhone user since my 3GS when it was brand new on the market.

My time for renewal is next month, just in time for the new iphone announcement. So I'm going to wait till the tenth to see what Apple announces before making any moves. But based on the rumors, I'm not excited in the least bit by what I'm seeing/hearing. Just seems like the same old thing with a few spec bumps/color choices.

So I'm seriously considering the jump to Android, specifically a Galaxy S4 Active. I want a bigger screen. I wanted one since I upgraded to my 4S a year and a half ago. I didn't pull the trigger then because I didn't feel like Android was up to par yet. I do now.

How many others are in my situation, ready for an upgrade soon and considering a jump to Andoid or something else?

I've been using both Android and iOS for the last 2 years, though my Android phones are nearly always my daily driver and my iPhone is my backup.

I'm actually sitting on an upgrade right now, though I have an arsenal of top of the line Android phones. I've been sucked into the game of using a phone for a few months, then selling it and moving to the next big thing. I thought the LG G2 was going to be my next phone, based on how utterly surprised I was by how good the Optimus G was, but I'm disappointed they took out SD support for the U.S. version of the phone, so I'll be skipping it. I'm now eying the Note 3, so I'm looking very forward to early September to see what it entails.

I will say this, though. While the Active is a great phone (the regular S4 is my daily driver at the moment), unless you really want the weatherproofing it offers, keep your mind open on what you may get. The LG G2 is a magnificent phone (I just prefer to have SD support)...the Note 3 is coming (that may be too large for your tastes)...and then there's the next Nexus phone that should be arriving sometime in October. Sony also has some nice phones coming as well.

You're like me...you're out of contract...so take this opportunity to look around and see what that can mean for you. If you're willing to pay out a bit more up front for something like the unlocked Nexus, you can find better deals with different carriers.

I was in your situation last year at this time. I decided to get the iPhone 5 for its larger screen only to return it weeks later. Besides having a taller screen, it was just more of the same and without a jailbreak, it was lacking to many features. Ended up getting a Note II and couldn't be happier. Now looking forward to upgrading to the Note III.

I hope apple has a surprise wow feature with the new iPhone but if it's a fingerprint scanner, that would be disappointing.

I was in your situation this time last year as well, and ended up getting an S3. After a while the newness, and the "wow" factor has worn off, and I'm considering going back to the iPhone for the 5S. I will wait to see what Samsung has to offer with the Note 3. Android is great for people that like to tinker with their phones, and want bells, and whistles. Otherwise, I miss having the iCloud sync with my iPad, Mac, and my Apple TV. Both have their strengths. Go test one out in store, and what you think. Good luck, the S4 is an awesome phone. You'll have a blast(pun intended) with the IR Blaster in some awesome places haha.

iPhone 3G was my first smartphone back in 2008. Then I moved onto the 4 and then the 5.

Left the iPhone 5 for the Active. I am very happy that I did. My main motivation was the 5" LCD screen which makes a huge difference. At this point the only true thing that I miss about iOS is that IMO their apps are overall better than Android's. But not by a ton.

It took me about a week to feel very comfortable with Android. I originally thought I'd use an Android device until a larger iPhone hit the market in 2014. Now I'm not so sure and am leaning towards staying with Android moving forward. Let me know if you have any Active questions.
