iPod Leaving ipod in car during cold weather

I have 160 gig ipod. I know that leaving it in my car during cold weather will probably cause the battery to lose its charge, but will it permamently DAMAGE the battery ?

I looked on Apple's site and it seems with the 160GB you mention it must be a Classic...here are the 'Environmental requirements' that I found on the tech specs page.

Operating temperature: 32° to 95° F
(0° to 35° C)
Nonoperating temperature: -4° to 113° F
(-20° to 45° C)

I think you'll be okay personally.

Don't know where you live, but there are areas where iPods left in the car will develop legs, smash the car window, and walk off, all on their own. But they tend to do that more in good weather, so you might be fine

had that happen to my first gen iphone.

anyway, iopd is left in the glove box where the USB port is.

I live in St. Louis, where the temperature is usually between 15°F and 95°F (though the car would get MUCH hotter in the summer). I had a hard drive based iPod in my car for about 4 years before it finally started acting all strange on me. I replaced it with a nano a couple years ago. Neither iPod left my car except to get updated. Since they never leave the car, though, I can't speak to how it affected the battery.

Yep, cold weather should be fine. Hot weather, esp. w/a fully or nearly fully charged battery is VERY bad for it. See http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/how_to_prolong_lithium_based_batteries.

I do not do it. The operating range says it is fine but from experience I have noticed my husband's iPods seem to lose their battery MUCH quicker than mine and he leaves his in his car permanently during winter.

Never a good idea to leave electronics in a car. Whether hot or cold, condensation can easily occur when you take it indoors due to the severe temperature change.

If your ipod charges while connected to your car stereo, it will affect the amount of charge your battery holds over time. It happened to my old nano.

My iPod charges while connected to my new home stereo system and I've been noticing some issues with my battery lately. I wonder are these related?
