Leaving PageMaker

I am finally getting a Mac at the Re/Max office where I spend my evenings doing print ads and brochures, etc. I've always used PageMaker, but now the newspaper only wants camera ready PDF, so I can use whatever I want, basically. What would you recommend - InDesign? ...Or is Pages good enough for simple layouts? I have no experience in either

Yes. Get your mitts on InDesign and a copy of InDesign: Classroom in a Book to start you off (Adobe's tutorial series) and possibly one of the 'bibles' as a reference.

Sooner or later, you'll want to do something that Pages won't let you do and as far I know, Pages is not a standard piece of studio-quality software.

You can download a fully-functional version trial of InDesign here to practice on...

But you will have register just to download it... when or if the time comes to purchase it, the full Creative Suite 2 is far better value than the stand-alone app by itself although Creative Suite v3 for Intel Macs is due out Q1 or Q2 2007.

Indesign! commands are basically like pagemaker and you can export directly to pdf.

InDesign is alot like pagemaker, except easier to use. For me at least.

I've used both and only a few months ago changed to Indesign. If you used Photoshop before, its almost exact to Photoshop except for what in can do.

InDesign will definitely meet your needs.

Correct me if I'm wrong.... but isn't InDesign just the next generation of PageMaker? Seems that way to me anyway. Amazing app, nonetheless.

InDesign is indeed the next generation of Pagemaker.

can anyone explain why you can't hide a selection in InDesign? I've always found that part of it rather irritating...
