Why can`t l just switch from internal to headphones from my keyboard instead of reaching around the back all the time ?

NOT user friendly, just annoying !

Great products, but this should be simple to do, how come they never thought of it.

If it is possible then l would love to know how.

Snow Leopard, imac 24.

Thanks

There is a switch inside the headphone jack, upon insertion of a headphone, the switch is triggered and audio is swapped from the internal speakers to the headphones. It's a hardware switch, so I doubt that much can be done about it.

If you get an iMic or something like it, you can plug the headphones into the iMic (usb), leave external speakers plugged into the headphone jack, and switch between them with the sound control panel.

Not a keyboard shortcut, but it sure beats getting up and walking around my desk every single time I need to switch between speakers and headphones. I only wish it hadn't taken me 4 months to figure it out...

I use a Logitec set of speakers with a volume/base controller on the desk. There is a headphone socket on the front of that. Much better sound that the internal speaker too.

Yes thanks , l feared that was the case, l suppose l`m a bit surprised that the bright boys at mac didn`t think it an obvious way of making usage even more user friendly.

As regards the other posts mentioning external speakers, thanks, but it was not what l was after, just internal to headphone switching, via the keyboard or mouse.
