A1311 Late 2010 21.5" Core i3 3.2GHz EMC2389
i know my iMac is old and this looks like a common problem ... but I'd really appreciate a little help!
I have placed the correct brand new PRAM battery in
When the power socket is turned on I get No1 LED diagnostic light on the mother board
8 seconds after pressing the power button (a faint flash) I get the start up chime followed by the other 3 LEDs
So all hardware diagnostics passed (?!?!?) . ..
but then there's no back light, when shining a torch I can see the apple logo and the bootup is fine into high sierra
I have tried: SMC & NVRAM resets, a careful bake of the GPU card, I have changed over the LED Backlight board
(to another one which was checked as working).
I have purchased a mini DP lead to join to another mid2011 iMac (with thunderbolt port), but the lead doesn't support
target display mode (pressing cmd F2) ... so i think I need a basic monitor with a mini DP slot??
My final thoughts are, that before the screen failed and went totally black, the back lighting was very yellow all over,
so maybe the backlight LED strips have failed .... if my logic above is correct then I need new backlight strips??
I have tried to follow this trouble shooting "chosen solution": https://www.ifixit.com/Answers/View/168324/LCD+Backlight+not+working+=+solved
I'm happy to follow this youtube guide to replacement as I have nothing to lose :
But before I split my LCD screen apart I need to find where I can get the LED strips from ...
Does anyone know a supplier??
