Does this jailbreak app exist?

When you click the lock button the iPhones screen turns off and if you get a message then it turns back on for a bit, shows the message, and then turns back off again. Is there an app which can turn the display on for a split second and display a dot representing a message - like on blackberry phones (apart from using screen rather than a light!)?
