All this fuss about led displays... well is it worth waiting so long, even perhaps untill fall 2007 if no led updates are announced for the MBPro at WWDC? And if it is worth waiting, what are we waiting for? Whats is the great difference between led and the lcd display the MBPro is wearing right now anyway?

Well apparently they are being announced on Tuesday (or at WWDC) so it's worth waiting the 10 days until then. Seeing as the Macbook is now better than the MBP it's not going to be a wait until October.

Better? How is it better?

I thought the high end MB's had 2GB RAM, my bad .

But the blackbook has a bigger hard drive and faster superdrive than the low-end MBP, so they are clearly in need of an update ;).

apart from the stock RAM and the graphics engine, the MacBook is currently a much better deal than the MacBook Pro. I expect to see a major overhaul of the MBP; not just an update here and there, but something huge. They'll make it a Pro machine again :D

Could be, but then again, why should they? The MBook didnt make a blast with its latest upgrading, so theres no reason to boost up the MBPro as well. If they do make a blast, it will only create a problem with MBPros pricing and make the younger brother (Mabook) so mutch inferior techwise. So i would hold my breath and wait just to be dissapointed at WWDC  Guys if the MacBPro gets and upgrade, it will be as "insignificant" as the one with MBooks!
God help us! :)

Apple doesn't care as long as the Macbook compares OK to similarly priced PC's. They'd much prefer the MBP to be a lot better than the MB so they can upsell ;).

These days "a lot better" as u said, means mutch more expensive! :D

I'd really like to see the LED displays as they reportedly have tremendously improved contrast over the current displays. However, even with LED backlighting, I'm not sure this will fix the color issues people have been reporting if Apple sticks with 6-bit displays, meaning the MB Pro might still be unsuitable for professional photo/graphics work.

Is there anything around thats more than 6bit displays?
Not that I know of for existing laptops, although they are available (Samsung makes a couple 8-bit laptop displays). I'm thinking that they are too cost prohibitive for Apple to use, so they may continue to use 6-bit displays but with improved dithering.

I think 6 bit displays can be fine, but for some reason Apple's are not.

What I'm more curious about is whether the grain will still be there. If they continue to use the same resolution, brightness and manufacturers, there's no reason why it wouldn't still be there as it seems to stem from the anti-reflective coating.
