Left 4 Dead 2 on MacBookPro 2010 15" i7

Hi I'm trying to play LFD2 on my 2010 mbp with the 512mb 330m and i7 processor on bootcamp (most recent). So i've set my MSAA to 2x, AA to 2x, vsync off (and i tried on), all settings @ medium.

I get about 60 fps but it's not even constant...it drops to around 30fps sometimes and you can feel the choppiness when there is a lot of action.

Anyone else with the same mbp have this problem? if not, can some people post their fps/settings (those that have the same mbp).

I would expect it to get choppy when there are craploads of infected.. I wouldn't expect a constant fps on a laptop, the CPU is hit hard when they're all running around. It should still be very playable though..? I have an earlier (9600m) mbp and it runs nicely.

One of the biggest fps increases you can get may be just to reduce the games screen resolution.

hmm okay brought it down from the 1680 res to the 1600 one and i can now hit 100 fps but still drops to around 40. guess it works

makes sure to turn the aa down before the res. thats fine performance seriously. since i have the 17" 1920 screen I probably will hit 30 fps but im cool with that.

On the same machine, I run L4D2 in Win 7 at default settings perfectly. It looks great and runs the best of any of my games. Maybe check your drivers and background processes.

just tried the game again on my i5 17" @ 1920 x 1200. all settings on high, 2 x AA. My average fps was 45 but sometimes 30 and even 27 at one point of extreme action. However that's fine and "maxed" in my book.

can i ask on windows 7 what driver you are using? I used that modified one (forgot where it's from) where you have to edit the .ini file to allow it to install on your bootcamp. Seems like that was the best option so far.

along with that, bootcamp gives me so many problems lol. my wireless just turns off and i tried changing the broadcom wireless drivers and everything. bleh i just want apple to fix 10.6.4 as well as lfd2 coming out in mac (soon) so i can enjoy it

Don't know what im using (in OSX now) but i remeber the date is from mid march 2010. I am also using game booster in additon to overclocking, getting the max power from this baby. Bootcamp does have a lot of random issues but since I just use it for steam gaming right now, I could care less. BTW played a bit more and in some parts my fps was 19 with a lot of fog, enimes, etc. I suppose I could turn off aa for perfect FPS , but I rather suffer for the visual bliss

I've been using the modified 197.16 driver but i recently downloaded 257.21

going to modify that one to run on bootcamp and I'll post details.

In bootcamp, lol firefox. My drivers are 8.17.11.9716. I would upgrade them if possible, but only if its worth because I am scared I will fail and mess somthing up
