Left AirPod Cuts Out After a Few Minutes on iPhone Only

My AirPods are several years old now and that may be the problem but I kind of doubt it. Today, I used them to listen to a one hour long YT video and both AirPods played the audio perfectly on my ATV

I then switch over to any of two 13 pro Max or even an XS Max and the audio on the left cuts out after a few minutes.

I have a free pair that I got from buying a MBA a year ago last September and I finally opened those to see if they may have the same problem. Gotta charge them first.

Any ideas on what may be going on here? Thanks!
