I thought this might interest quite a few of you, so here is my premise.

The left AirPod of my AirPods Pro 2 often would not charge in the case and leave me with the right AirPod charged and left one empty.
At first I cleaned the contacts on the AirPods, then the charging case but to no avail.

I noticed that the left AirPod would charge when I'd slightly push it leftwards inside the case so the second contact must be the culprit.
As my eyes are too bad to see if I also have rust on the tips I used a dental pick inside to pry the contact outwards and tried charging the left AirPod - it worked!

What I think I did is bulge the contact outwards so that it would make contact with the silver charging tips of the AirPod again and it now charges every time I place it back in the case.

Maybe this is some sort of solution of last resort for people having the same problem.

I have a similar problem with the right airpod on my Pro1's. My fix is even jankier than your's! I just have a small piece of Kleenex folded up that lives in the lid of the charger. It adds just enough pressure that the stubborn airpod charges just fine now.

That one contact looks tarnished, possibly from a pod being damp when inserting. Glad your fix got it working.
