legendary sony picture quality??

I always wondered if sony picture lived up to it's hype. I must tell you it does. I have a old 42 inch sony big screen that i connected my ps3 too in the game room. It looks better than my 52 inch samsung lcd and 32 samsung lcd in my bed room. Im even thinking of getting another sony lcd tv. anybody else got a sony.. do u feel it's the best picture out...??

I have an old Sony Trinitron 27” tube TV and the picture on it is amazing. However, my stepdad has a 40” Bravia LCD and it looks just OK. I don’t know the model number. In fact, he frequently comments that my 32” L Series Samsung LCD looks much better than his Sony.

We both paid around $1400 for ours, but I got mine a year before him.

So, like any HDTV it depends on the model, panel and your individual brightness and calibration settings.

I do like what Sony is doing with their TVs such as the Bravia video link and the new automatic calibration with the PS3 that’s supposedly coming.

Can't ever compare Tube (CRT) TV's to LCD. Best picture period is CRT and is what all other types (LCD, Plasma, OLDED, DLP, etc) aspire to replicate.

I forget what crt tv it is. it was heavy lol. but your right the picture doesn't compare to that crt...

Sony TV's since they went LCD have been awful. The LCD isn't too bad when compared to other LCDs, it is the processing that lets it down. They scale poorly, they have damn awful sharpness settings that wont switch off for example.

I haven't check out many LCDs lately, plasma is still the way forward for now.

I'm still sticking with my Fujitsu and Pioneer plasmas.

You're plasma will die in the near future while the Sony will still chug along for many years to come. At least this is my experience.

My family has gone through several manufacturers that always die at some point, however, we have several Sony tvs that have never died (and some are a couple of decades old).

I agree that plasma will have a better picture quality, but the burn-in issues and short life are too much of a drawback against LCD.

I think everyone has experience with an old sony crt that looks good and lasts forever (not that I've had many crt's that have died), but nowadays I don't rate sony at all.

They're just another average manufacturer of lcds, still living off this old reputation of quality and reliability.
Don't get me started on their other current products, their marketing, their management, their attitude, their software or their warranty/repairs service - simply awful.

Assuming you're a savvy consumer, everything you buy should be judged on it's own - going by a brand's image/reputation is just going to cost you money and frustration.

I have a 46" Sony Bravia v series and the picture is phenomenal. Their entry level LCD's are iffy, but once you get above the v series, you can tell the difference. My only problem now is that I see how crappy the compression is on DirecTv.

I just bought a sony 52" Z series LCD, and will be getting in in a couple of days. I'll let you know how it compares to my 24" Trinitron from 2000. The Z series is their second best, behind the XBR series.

so your saying a 52 inch plasma is better than a 52 inch lcd sony?

i Have the Sony KDL40V3000 from a few years back and the picture quality is phenomenal, sure there are better tvs now, but, they are still way more expensive than my Sony was.

The only thing i Haven't tried on it is the free-view tuner ( OTA Digital TV in the UK) because we don't get a free-view signal where i live. HDMI, Component and SCART Sources shine, with the latter being represented well by the Bravia engine and Full HD panel

Perhaps, you did not read my post Mr. Know-it-all.

I've owned two plasma sets that did not last beyond four years. My family and I own many Sony sets and not one of them has crapped out (and some are well over a decade old).

Since you know everything, why don't you back up your claims?

Hi,
I picked up my Sony KDL52z5100 and HOLY CRAP it's awesome! The picture quality is amazing, way better than my 24" trinitron. I can't wait to start playing with the DLNA. This TV has all the bells and whistles and should keep me happy for the next decade or so.
