I recently moved. At my old place I used Azureus frequently, having it open and surfing the web was very possible. However, at my new place with my new ISP things are different. With Azureus open, web pages only load half the time, and the loading times are comparable to dial up.

I emailed my ISP about it and got this response;
Hello Mr, when you open BitTorrent programs you are opening hundreds of connections to your computer even if your only getting 10K/sec. Our connections only allow a maximum of 1024 connections open at a time. Any more than this and you are flooding our network. Your plan that you have with us is a 1 to 3 Mb DSL connection a 1 Mb connection can download at 125KB/s and a 3 Mb connection can download at 375KB/s, at 180KB/s your connection speed is about 1.44 Mb which is within your plan speeds. If you have any more questions please let us know.
Thanks,

This is the only ISP in the area, and I feel I'm getting ripped off most of the time, so my question is are they giving me a straight response? If Azureus says I'm connected to 30 people, does that really mean 30 people or could I be truly connected to 1000+?

Thanks, I just want to know if I'm being screwed.

Azureus used to bring my network to a halt. I found that if I limited uploads, I could continue to do other internet related activities.

Azureus --> Prferences --> Transfer
Then set max upload to 5 kb/s. Any lower and your downloads will automatically be limited too.

Hope this solves your problem or at least helps somewhat.
