Lemon iMac

For the second time this month, my iMac has refused to start. Just two weeks ago, it returned from Apple because it was experiencing the same problem. This is the 5th or 6th time it has happened to me. Each time they end up replacing the Logic Board, only to return for another few weeks before breaking again... What to do? This is really making me reconsider any future Apple purchases...

Even with it being as old as it is? (ok, its not that old, but in 'computer' ages... ). The thing is though, it just keeps happening much more frequently now... Its really annoying me, now I'm stuck using my dad's XP machine.

Luckily they have been fixing it without charge, even though it is out of warranty. Although appreciated, this doesn't make it any less annoying.

Well my iMac is finally back again, but is it working? Ofcouse not! The second day back from getting its power supply replaced and it randomly restarts about every half hour! Hurray!

I had a 24" and 3 macbooks with crazy problems......I am sorry to say bought a HP and am loving Vista.....waiting for better QC before i buy again!!!!!

I believe if it breaks and gets fixed more than three times with the same issues, they are supposed to replace it. This may be US only regulation.

Are you serious? what sorts of problems did you have? Did they get addressed and working properly now?

i had a lemon powerbook g4 that went through 3 logic boards. after the third logic board, apple replaced my powerbook with a mbp. perhaps you can get apple to replace your imac g5 since it definitely does look like a lemon. if you're lucky, they will replace it with an intel imac. just go there and politely make your case, and go from there.

Ok, thanks guys. Hopefully they'll be understanding! I'm a student so I don't make a hole lot of money. Its sorta hard to convince my dad to buy additional Macs (for the house hold and a MB for University) when this keeps happening!

Nope these were all bought new from Apple online, The first was a black macbook week 19, random shut down loose left side, gave it away and bought a C2d, random shut downs, screen lines, so then a 24 imac, screen issues, loud fan, screen would brighten the dim or flash, and froze..at start up screen.....so when back to Vista for a while till the work the kinks out..sold them all and moved on

Only problem with my iMac was 4-6 problems with the hard drive (osx deleted itself) and PSU (over heating so it keeps shutting off).

The PSU I'll probably get replaced in the next couple weeks. Guess that what happens when u leave your iMac open for months on end lol

Thing is Apple uses ******** hardware. Thing is the OS is pretty bullet-proof does have minor problems like Safari and crap.

I don't know what to do. Maybe it's just me or perhaps I have bad luck, but... MY iMAC HAS BEEN NOTHING BUT TROUBLE.

This is my first Mac, and I purchased it because many of my friends always talk about how much they love theirs and how little, if any, trouble their Macs caused them.

When I first got it in April of 05, I thought it was the best computer ever. Then a few months later, it began freezing on startup. It rarely happened, so I never really thought anything of it. Then it started freezing more frequently until it froze about 9 out of 10 times I started it up. I brought it in and after 4 weeks, I was told my motherboard needed to be replaced. Then, after I got it back, it started to sound like a plane landing. The fan was sooo loud. It also put itself to sleep and wouldn't come back on. I couldn't run any more than one program at a time or it would go to sleep. I couldn't burn cds or anything. So.... I brought it back to get fixed. After replacing the fan and some other part, I got it home and it seemed to be okay. When I went to shut it down, it froze. Now it won't even start up at all. This is so frustrating. I called the Apple people who fixed my computer the last 2 times, and they basically gave up and told me to contact Apple. I've called Apple service and have tried pressing all kinds of buttons on startup, tried the install cd, and even paid 100 bucks for a program that was supposed to fix it and NOTHING. They say it's a software problem this time, and insist that I have to erase and reset everything.

I feel so frustrated that I could just cry. I just graduated from nursing school, and I'l lose all of my files. I don't know much about computers (esp Macs), and Apple isn't really too helpful with this. I don't know how to get information off of a computer that I can't start up. I just don't know what to do anymore. I know all computers have problems, but this computer is already costing me more than I ever imagined. I just don't know what else to do. I just know that even if I reset my computer, something else will go wrong. It's like an endless battle with this computer. Help!!

Despite the problems I think that is a good outcome. I am surprised that they let it happen so many times.

Why don't you just get a new iMac?

Apple's been putting in some expensive logic boards without warranty coverage and it's for free. Putting in 300 logic boards, switching 20 power supplies, getting a new installation of software 53 and a half times wont do anything.
