I started running line command 'diskutil cs revert <ID>' to decrypt a Time Machine backup volume on an external drive (WD Passport 1 TB). The Terminal command initiated with
"Started CoreStorage operation on disk3 My Passport for Mac"

A day later the process still appears to be running. Is this normal?

I can't retrieve all information on the volume with 'diskutil cs list', that is the external disk containing the volume I'm trying to revert. Disk information is displayed as below image...it appears to running some kind of process also or can't retrieve further information on 'disk3.

running macOS 10.12 on a Mac Pro, although the original volume encryption occurred on iOS X El Capitan.

Thank you going forward.

Replying to my own post.
I managed to "fix" the problem, although my Mac seems to be the one actually resolving the situation (strange, something like this never happened on Windows os). After a few restarts, the last taking a particularly long time, the revert process began running (again?) and I was able to access my 'diskutil cs list' routine having a continuing window on the process. It took about 6 hr to revert my external HD back to its native form, a reference to those attempting a similar manuvuer, but I can now backup normally.
That said, I no longer want to encrypt my backup. Can't understand why I did it in the first place as all the same information already exists on my unencrypted main HD being backed up.
